Shutters for Unusual-Shaped Windows

A shaped window needs more than a rectangular panel in a custom size. We check the outline, louvre layout and opening method so the shutter follows the window and remains practical to use.

Arches and curved window heads

An arched shutter can follow the curved top of a window, preserving its outline instead of concealing it behind a straight covering. The design may use a separate shaped section above rectangular panels.

Ask which sections tilt, open or are fixed. Small shaped areas may not operate in the same way as the rectangular panels below. We confirm the available design in the selected range before you order.

Measure the outline and the working space

Angled and gable windows need accurate measurements of their slopes and corners. We check handles, recess depth, fixing surfaces and whether the window opens inwards. High windows also need a realistic plan for reaching the controls.

Our Austin and Newport hardwood ranges include shaped options, subject to the particular geometry and dimensions. Send an overall photograph first, but the final specification needs a survey. The sash illustration shows a regular opening for comparison.

A bay is a different kind of shape

A bay may use rectangular shutter frames joined around several faces rather than one shaped panel. Square bays, angled bays and curved arrangements each need their corners and panel widths planned together.

Tell us whether the unusual outline is in the face of the window or in the way the windows turn around the room. That distinction helps us discuss the right construction and avoid confusing a shaped head with a bay layout.

Plan your budget

Shaped panels need a bespoke quotation. Geometry, size, access for measuring and fitting, material and any fixed sections affect the cost; a standard rectangular-window estimate cannot confirm it.

Your questions answered

Can every unusual shape be shuttered?

Suitability depends on the shape, size, available fixing surfaces and range limitations. We assess the opening before confirming what can be made.

Do the louvres in a shaped section move?

Some designs have adjustable louvres; others include fixed areas. We identify the operation of each section in the proposed specification.

Can shaped shutters fit an opening window?

Possibly. The survey needs to check the window movement, catches and space to open or remove the shutter sections as designed.

Can you quote from a photograph?

A photo and approximate dimensions help the initial discussion. Accurate survey measurements and the agreed design are needed for the final quotation.
