Follow the curve of your window

A full height arched shutter follows the window from sill to curved head. Depending on the shape and dimensions, the design can use shaped doors or a separate arched section above rectangular panels. Where the window has a horizontal rail beneath the arch, a matching shutter division can keep the lines balanced.

A semicircular head, a shallow curve and a tall narrow arch need different measurements. We check the actual outline rather than assuming every curve is a perfect half-circle. The survey establishes which sections can tilt, swing open or need a fixed arrangement, including access for cleaning.

Cover the arch or leave the glass open

Full coverage brings shutter screening to the upper glass as well as the lower window. Adjustable louvres let you change daylight and sightlines without opening the doors, wherever the chosen shaped design allows them to move. This is useful when neighbouring windows overlook the room from above.

Café shutters cover only the lower part, keeping the arch exposed. They suit a dining room or front room where the main priority is privacy at street level. The uncovered glass still admits light and remains visible after dark, so think about the view into the room before choosing the height.

Hardwood, measured and fitted to the arch

Our Austin and Newport hardwood ranges include shaped shutters. We help you choose a finish and louvre size that suit the proportions of your window, then confirm availability for the exact curve and panel dimensions. For a bathroom, tell us about moisture exposure so we can check a suitable material and shaped specification.

At your free home survey we measure the curve, width, height and recess depth, and check handles, fixing surfaces and window movement. We also plan where the panels will open, with clearance from the ceiling, walls and furniture. Once the design is agreed and the shutters are made, our carpenters fit them and show you how each section operates.

Plan your budget

Arched window shutters are priced to the individual design. The curve, overall size, number of panels, material and access for fitting all affect the installed cost. Our pricing guide gives a starting point for standard windows; shaped work needs its own quotation. Send a photo and approximate dimensions with your enquiry, and we will confirm the specification at survey.

Your questions answered

Can shutters be fitted to arched windows?

Yes, many arched windows can take made-to-measure shutters. We assess the outline, dimensions and fixing space before confirming the design. A full shaped covering or lower café shutters may suit the window.

Do arched shutters open?

Opening depends on the design. The lower doors may open separately from the upper arch, or shaped doors may cover the full height. Some shaped areas can be fixed. We confirm panel movement and louvre operation before ordering.

Can you cover just the semicircular top?

A separate shaped top section may be possible where there is a suitable frame or division beneath it. We need to check the opening and fixing positions, especially if you want to retain an existing covering below.

Are arched window shutters blackout?

Standard shutters reduce light but leave small gaps around louvres, frames and moving parts. For a bedroom, discuss the whole opening with us: a rectangular blackout blind alone will not cover an exposed arch.

Can I still open the window behind the shutters?

The survey checks catches, handles and the direction of window movement. Shutter doors may need to be opened first. High arches and any fixed sections also need a practical plan for access and cleaning.

How do you measure an arched window for shutters?

We record the full outline as well as the width, height and depth, with detailed shape measurements or a template where required. Photos and rough sizes are useful for the initial enquiry; final manufacture uses the surveyed specification.

How much do arched shutters cost?

There is no single price for an arch. Size, material, curved joinery, panel layout and fitting access determine the quotation. We provide a bespoke quote after checking your window rather than applying a standard rectangular-window estimate.
