Larger bay(0.7 + 2.1 + 0.7)m × 1.8m6.30m²£2,200–£2,425

These are our indicative budgets for the stated sizes, not average UK prices or fixed quotations. They include standard frames and hardware, measuring, one delivery allowance, straightforward bay installation and 20% VAT. The upper figure includes a fitting-variation allowance; prices are rounded to the nearest £25. Your survey confirms the specification and final price.

A simple way to estimate the area

For our standard example, add the three face widths: 0.6 + 1.5 + 0.6 = 2.7m. Multiply by the 1.8m covered height to give 4.86m².

If the faces have different heights, calculate each face separately and add the areas. Use rough sizes for budgeting only: corner allowances and the final frame position need professional measurement.

Full height, café or tier on tier: compare the cost

Keeping the same bay dimensions makes the difference easier to see. All three examples below use a centre face of 1.5m, two 0.6m sides and a full window height of 1.8m.

Tier on tier

Less coverage, a lower budget

Café-style shutters reduce the covered area, making them worth comparing if you want street-level privacy while keeping the upper glass open. Surveying, delivery and fitting still apply, so half-height shutters do not cost half as much.

Choose the height around your window rails and the view from outside. For a bedroom or an overlooked upstairs window, full coverage may be more useful than the saving.

Pay for flexibility you will use

Tier-on-tier shutters add independently opening upper doors. Our guide uses a higher material allowance for this style. On a tall bay, that flexibility can be useful, but the extra doors need room to swing.

If you mainly want to tilt the upper and lower louvres separately, ask about split tilt in a full-height panel instead. Our louvre and split-tilt guide explains the difference; the selected controls are confirmed in your quote.

What affects the cost of wooden shutters for a bay window?

The wooden shutter prices in this guide use our Austin paulownia hardwood range in a standard painted finish. They give you a consistent starting point for comparing bay sizes and styles.

A different timber range, stained finish or custom colour can change the price. We also offer Newport poplar hardwood, faux wood ranges and Dulwich waterproof PVC. Those products need their own specification and quotation; the Austin figures are not a price list for every material.

When comparing wooden shutters for bay windows, ask for the range name, finish, frame and panel arrangement. Look at samples as well as the number at the bottom of the quote. Our wooden shutter guide introduces the material choices.

Why bay shape and fitting details change the price

A bay has several faces meeting at corners. Each frame must fit its own opening and work with the next, while leaving room for the louvres, handles and opening panels.

  • Corners and bay posts

The frame junction must suit the angle. Narrow side returns can leave less room for moving panels.

  • Panel layout

A three-sided bay is not necessarily a three-panel shutter. A wider centre face may need more than one opening panel.

  • The existing window

Handles, vents, uneven reveals and window seats influence the fitting position and opening clearance.

  • Optional features

Custom finishes, hidden controls, additional blinds and access or making-good work can change the total.

A square or box bay has right-angle returns; a splayed bay has angled sides. A curved or multi-sided bay needs its own assessment. The size examples above are not fixed prices for every bay shape. See our bay window shutters guide for layouts and design ideas.

DIY prices versus supplied-and-fitted bay shutters

A supply-only price covers a different service from a measured-and-fitted quotation. With DIY shutters, you normally take responsibility for the ordering measurements and installation. On a bay, the angles and frame junctions make that more involved than measuring a flat opening.

With our supplied-and-fitted service, we survey the bay, agree the shutter layout and our carpenters install the finished shutters. Compare the complete price, including VAT, delivery, frames and fitting, rather than a headline material rate per square metre.

The difference between a DIY price and a fitted quote is not simply the labour charge: the products and included services may differ too. For costs beyond one bay, read our general plantation shutter cost guide.

Compare bay window shutter quotes like for like

A useful written quotation makes it clear what you are buying. Check these details before choosing:

  • All bay faces included, with dimensions and panel layout.
  • Material range, colour, finish and louvre size.
  • Full height, café or tier on tier, with the coverage height stated.
  • Corner posts, frames, hinges and tilt controls.
  • Measuring, delivery, fitting and VAT.
  • Optional blinds, access charges and any making good.

To keep the budget down, compare a standard painted finish and a straightforward panel layout first. Consider café coverage where it meets your privacy needs. Choose the design you will enjoy using every day, with the complete installed price agreed before ordering.

Bay window shutter cost questions

How much do plantation shutters cost for a bay window?

Our three-sided bay example is £1,825–£2,000 for full-height painted Austin hardwood shutters, supplied and fitted with 20% VAT. It assumes a 1.5m centre face, two 0.6m side faces and a height of 1.8m. Smaller and larger bays have different budgets; the final price follows a survey.

What is the cost of wooden shutters for a bay window?

For the same 4.86m² bay, our full-height Austin paulownia hardwood example is £1,825–£2,000. Other timber ranges, finishes and layouts need their own quotation. The word “wooden” alone does not identify a like-for-like specification.

Are bay window shutter blinds the same as plantation shutters?

“Shutter blinds” is often used for plantation shutters: framed panels with adjustable louvres. Venetian blinds are a different product, with slats that tilt and lift. Check which covering the price includes before comparing quotations.

Are café shutters cheaper for a bay window?

They can be. Half-height café coverage on our example bay is £1,175–£1,300, compared with £1,825–£2,000 for full height. Measuring, delivery and fitting still apply, so half the covered area does not mean half the total cost.

Does a square bay cost more than an angled bay?

There is no fixed surcharge based on the name alone. Compare the area, number of faces, corner details and opening clearance. Two bays of similar area can require different frames and fitting work.

Can I get a bay window shutter price without a home visit?

A photograph and approximate widths and height help us discuss a budget. We check the angles, fitting position, handles and final dimensions at the survey before confirming a written quotation.

Do these prices include installation and VAT?

Yes. The examples allow for standard painted Austin hardwood shutters, standard frames and hardware, measuring, one delivery allowance, straightforward bay fitting and 20% VAT. Optional features and more complex work are assessed separately.
