The best layout depends on the height of your windows, the view into your room and how you want the panels to open. These illustrations show how three styles change the coverage on the same bay.

For a period bay, we plan panel widths and horizontal rails around the existing window divisions. Café shutters can leave the upper sash visible; full-height or tier-on-tier shutters give more coverage. We check the condition and position of the joinery before agreeing fixings.
A square bay has right-angle returns; a splayed bay has sides set at wider angles. Each face needs measuring at the intended frame position. Corner posts, handles and opening panels must work together across the complete bay.
Explore square & box bay window shutters →A curved or bow bay often has several smaller window sections. A shutter layout may follow those sections with individual frames and panels rather than one curved panel. We assess the actual geometry and suitable configurations at your survey.

Materials & the finished look
Our Austin paulownia and Newport poplar hardwood ranges offer painted finishes for living rooms and bedrooms; Austin also offers stain options. We bring samples so you can compare them with your window frames and the light in your room.
Faux wood is another option, while Dulwich waterproof PVC can suit a bay in a bathroom or other humid room. Material and configuration suitability are confirmed at survey. Explore our waterproof PVC shutters for more on bathroom use.
You see the backs of the shutter panels through the glass. A consistent finish and rails aligned with the window divisions can give the bay a balanced appearance. Café shutters leave clear glass above, while full-height shutters create a framed look across the whole opening. These are interior shutters, fitted inside your home.
Privacy depends on louvre angle and sightlines, especially with lights on after dark. We discuss the views from the pavement and neighbouring windows when planning the design.
Plan your budget
The price of shutters for a bay window depends on the area being covered, the material, the panel arrangement and the installation requirements. A bay needs each face measured separately: the distance straight across the front is not the total shutter width.
Our shutters pricing guide includes a three-sided bay example with faces of 0.6m + 1.5m + 0.6m, each 1.8m high. Compare full-height, café and tier-on-tier styles, or enter approximate dimensions in the budget calculator.
Those guide ranges include supply, fitting and VAT. Your measured quotation confirms the specification and price for your own bay; curved bays and unusual configurations need individual assessment.

Café coverage uses less material; independent tiers, hardwood finishes and other options affect the specification.
Bay angles, frame depth, window handles and available panel clearance influence the design and fitting work.
Shutters or blinds?
If you are searching for bay window shutter blinds, you may mean plantation shutters: framed panels with tilting louvres. They stay in position when closed and can swing open for access to the glass.
Wooden Venetian blinds for a bay window have slats that tilt and lift. They can be a useful alternative if you want the covering to gather at the top, while shutters give a defined frame and opening panels. With either option, the corner junctions and window controls need careful planning.
Survey & installation
DIY shutters involve taking your own measurements, selecting the correct frame and fitting the finished panels. A bay adds angles and adjoining frames, so follow the chosen supplier’s measuring instructions rather than treating it as one straight window.
Our service includes the home survey, design, supply and carpenter installation. We measure at the intended frame depth, check the corners and handles, agree the panel layout, then fit and check the finished shutters. You do not need to provide final manufacturing measurements.
Your questions answered
Shutter blinds is a common name for interior plantation shutters: rigid panels with adjustable louvres, fitted within a frame. They differ from Venetian blinds, whose slats tilt and lift together. Our bay window shutters are made to measure and professionally fitted.
Yes, subject to a survey of the opening and suitable fixing points. We check the sash rails, handles, bay angles and surrounding joinery. Full-height, café and tier-on-tier designs can all be considered; the right choice depends on the window and how you use the room.
Café shutters cover less of the window, which can reduce the material cost. Measuring, delivery and installation still apply, so the total is not simply half the full-height price. Compare both options in your bespoke quotation.
The shutter layout should preserve access to the window controls. We check handles, catches and opening movement during the survey, along with the room needed to fold the panels. Any limitations are discussed before the design is agreed.
Louvred shutters control light but do not guarantee complete blackout. For a bedroom bay, ask about integrated blackout blinds and whether the combined frame is suitable for your opening.
No. Approximate dimensions and a photo can help an initial conversation, but we take the measurements at your free home survey. Do not order bespoke shutters from a single measurement across the front of the bay.
Often, yes. We check the shutter depth, panel opening space and the position of the curtain track or pole. Curtains can remain a separate decorative layer if there is enough clearance.
